GoTo is an always-on-top floating toolbar which helps quickly navigate in the Contacts screen. It allows to move to the contact of your choice based on its position in the current lookup.
GoTo a position of your choice
Let's say your database has 5000 contacts and you want to go to contact #1000. There is no way to do this in ACT!. You can use the PageUp and PageDown keys to try to move as fast as possible to position #1000. With GoTo, all you have to do is enter 1000 in the Go to # box and press Enter or click on the GO button.
Moving step by step
You can also define a step, in the screenshot above, the step is 50 and move forward or backward by the number of contacts define in the step. So if you are on Contact #1000 and click the > button with a step of 50, you'll be taken to contact #1050.
Obviously the < button goes backwards 50 contacts at a time, whereas the << and >> buttons will take you to the first and last contact of the lookup.
Saving a lookup
By clicking the Save menu item, GoTo gives you the ability to save the current lookup, which you will then be able to re-load at any time (during the same ACT! session) by clicking the Load menu item. The same contact that was active when the lookup was saved will be active when re-loaded. Previous allows you to quickly go back to the lookup that was active prior to pressing the Load button (so it is not exactly equivalent to the Lookup/Previous ACT! command: it only allows to make active the lookup that was active prior to loading a saved lookup).
The lookup is not saved permanently. When you exit ACT! or close your database, the lookup is lost. If you need to permanently save lookups, look at our Lookup Store add-on which allows to permanently save as many as 8 lookups per database.
