Here are the differences between the two controls:
- The Picture Viewer control displays pictures stored outside of ACT!, so it prevents your database from growing
because of your use of pictures.
- The PictureField Viewer displays pictures already contained in picture fields, therefore it has no significant impact on
your database size (it only uses a memo field).
- The pictures in the Picture Viewer cannot be added to reports as they are not in the database.
- The pictures in the PictureField Viewer can be added to reports as they are in the database.
- The pictures in the Picture Viewer are automatically resized to fit the control but when displayed in a popup window
they can be viewed at their original size.
- The pictures in the PictureField Viewer are automatically resized to fit the control but when displayed in a popup window
they can be viewed at the size of the ACT! picture field they belong to, because ACT! picture fields automatically resize the pictures before storing
them.
What they have in common
Both allow you to gain layout space by displaying pictures in a neat, easy-to-navigate control. In the case of the PictureField
viewer controls, it allows you to stack your picture fields on top of one another (not completely though otherwise you would use the ability to
assing a picture to the field, but still it can save you a lot of space).
They both allow you to easily label, rotate and sort your pictures.
