Creating Interactive Advanced Queries

The idea behind Interactive Advanced Queries is therefore to replace the values in your queries with parameters so that you'll be prompted for values before running them.

  • The add-on uses the same window as the one ACT! uses for Advanced Queries. We only added a Default And/Or selector.
  • You can use up to 10 parameters from PromptForValue to PromptForValue9
  • Parameters are automatically added to the Value drop-down list. If the parameter has not been used yet, it is indicated in-between parentheses. If it is used, the field it was first assign to is indicated in-between parentheses.

The add-on main window

  • You may use any parameter as many times as you want. If you do, you'll just be prompted to enter for a value once as shown in the previous topic.
  • You don't have to parametize all your criteria. If you want to include only customers in your lookup, you can add a criterion where the value is static (see below). Of course the criterion without parameter won't appear in the Prompt window. Note the use of the parentheses and AND operator.

An interactive query

  • You may also use a different parameter for the same fields, as shown below:

The Prompt window

The add-on main window

  • In the Prompt window, you'll get for label the name of the field the parameter is associated to (the first one if there are more than 1 field) and the operator.
  • If you leave a field blank, the criterion will simply be ignored.
  • You don't have to use the parameters in order when creating the query: you could use PromptForValue2 for your first criteria and PromptForValue1 for your second. But in the Prompt window, they will always be in order: PromptForValue1 will always appear before PromptForValue2.
